The Possibility of Impossible (Part II)

Mark 6:46-48/ New King James Version

(46) And when He had sent them away, he departed to the mountain to pray.  (47) Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. (48) Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night (3:00 a.m.—6:00 a.m.) He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.

ISSUE

I’m believing for something that’s never been done. I’ve been in this condition for so long, to get out of it seems impossible.

RESEARCH AND STUDY

Yesterday we discussed that God doesn’t have to prove His power; He demonstrates His power oftentimes because there is no other option.  But what happens when that option seems impossible?  What seems so impossible for or to you, that the possibility to consider it possible seems impossible? For Jesus it was no transportation; for Moses it was the Red Sea. Yet they both did the impossible but how? Preparation.

Notice that in Mark 6:48, Jesus had been in prayer until 3:00 a.m.  In order to prepare for the impossible, we must do our due diligence and pray.  Not just haphazard prayers where we talk about er’thing; but a focused prayer where we address ONE ISSUE and actually wait until we hear from Him or  have a peace. 

Imagine Jesus not having transportation.  Yep, no surf board, helicopter or jet ski to get Him to the middle of the sea.  What did Jesus do?  He prepared His Spirit by waiting on God to reveal to Him – in prayer - how He would get to the disciples.  When God revealed ‘Walk!” to His spirit, because He had been in prayer and not watching a whole lot of reality t.v., Facebooking, or Tweeting; He was in a position to have the faith to believe and open Himself to the possibility of actually doing the impossible – walking on the sea.

But notice He had no point of reference.  He’d not seen John the Baptist walk on the sea.  He had to do what had never been done.  What are you believing for that you may be the first to do? 

Like Jesus, upon their exodus from the cruel bondage of Pharaoh, the LORD told Moses to ‘stretch out (his) hand over the sea and divide it and the children of Israel (would) go (over) on dry ground through the midst of the sea.’ (Exodus 14:16)  Who had done that before?  No one, but that didn’t mean it couldn’t be done. And because one man believed and obeyed, millions walked through the midst of the sea.  Like the Lord Jesus and Moses, you may have to stand there and look at that sea until you can see yourself walking on it or see Him parting it, but don’t move – keep believing!  Millions of lives could be impacted, helped, and empowered.

Do your due diligence – pray!  Talk to God out loud about what He has placed in your heart to do.  Stop seeking approval.  He put the impossible in your heart, not everyone else.  And just because it’s been a long time or its never been done doesn’t mean that it can’t be done.  Stay in prayer until your living in it!  Nope, it’s not gonna happen in one day but one day it will happen.  Pray, prepare, write the vision and one day what seemed so impossible that the possibility to consider it possible seems impossible will be a reality- today!

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Consider limiting your time doing other activities such as watching television and surfing the web.  Devote a certain time of each day that you will do nothing but read the Word and spend time in prayer – about ‘your impossible’.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Get a concordance and look for ‘your impossible’ in the Word.  If it’s been done or something similar to it, write down the scriptures and insert your name/situation.  Then take that into your prayer time.

ISSUE

My co-workers, friends and family don’t believe.  How can I prove God is real to them?

RESEARCH AND STUDY

Sometimes we think Jesus performed miracles just to prove the power of God.  Oftentimes, we try to prove God‘s power to people – but for the wrong reasons.  What do I mean by proving the power of God?   Someone may have a sickness, disease, or injury, but there are those around who don’t believe that person can be healed. Now we want to prove that God has the power to heal, so we pray a loud, wordy prayer, get the grease, lay hands and voila; we expect God to show up and show out! But that’s not God.  He’s not a show off neither is He interested in making us look ‘spiritual’ so that people are convinced we know how to tap into His power.  God heals, delivers, and provides because oftentimes, there is no other option. 

Let’s look at the situation Jesus is faced with.  He’s through praying and sees His disciples are ‘straining at rowing, for the wind was against them.’  He’s alone, there are no other boats available, it’s late and the weather is bad.  How is Jesus supposed to help the disciples?  He had to walk on the sea; there was no other means of transportation. 

Now, let’s consider Moses and the children of Israel.  When they were facing the Red Sea, Moses wasn’t thinking that he had to concoct some type of plan, spit a host of confessions and make declarations to prove God’s power.   There was no other option but for God to part the sea.

Perhaps this has been what has prevented us from receiving our breakthroughs, healings, and deliverances?  We’ve considered too many options.  Either you believe Him or you don’t. 

It’s not our responsibility to prove God’s power to people.  Nor to say God shows out like He’s trying to impress mankind.  Stop trying to prove and impress and just believe.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Pay attention to when circumstances or people try to tempt you into proving your spirituality which is essentially testing God and then prayerfully resist.  This means close your mouth, walk away, or whatever you know to do.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Ask God to reveal when you have tried to impress people with your spirituality and when He does, immediately repent.  Look at what is lacking in your life and see if you’ve been considering too many options.
